We created DaydreamToy.com to showcase a fun and innovative product line of children’s toys, reinforce their branding – dreamy blue-sky and clouds packaging, and a brightly colored thought bubble logo– and creatively generate sales through a non-traditional e-commerce model.

The site needed to be enticing, technologically advanced, easy to navigate, intuitive, had to set DaydreamToy out from the pack, and evoke a professional presence, while maintaining a fun, playful and engaging environment.

Working with startups is always rewarding, but as is often the case, budget was a challenge. However, our belief in the products, and the fact that we were working with a client who was driven to ensure that their website evoked everything they felt their brand was trying to communicate, helped us bring the vision to reality.

And fun factor?…Tons. How can you not have fun designing for a toy company?

Innovation, as always, was a large part of the inspiration. The toys themselves are innovative and the site needed to be as well. Because the client already had an agreement with a third party e-commerce vendor, we were able to step outside of the box on this one.  Rather than having to focus on the restrictions of a traditional method of “sales” and “e-commerce”, the site was instead created to be an online product catalog, easily browse-able, fun to look through, and filled with photos and detailed descriptions. The e-commerce element exists simply a tie through to their existing sales and distribution vendor via a happy graphic that echos their logo that appears on every product page.

To enhance the site experience we needed to make the toys and company come to life. We added videos of their key product lines and a message from the founder. Rather than going the fashionable yet quality compromised You-Tube route, we went with innovation again and created polished flash videos set within thought bubbles to echo the logo and reinforce the branding.

We feel the result is a great match of form and function, establishing a professional online image that maintains the fun and innovation of the brand while ensuring a seamless online experience.

Apparently our peers agree. The site won a 2007 Platinum Creativity Award, as well as a Silver 2007 Davey Award.

Here is what the client says about the result:

“Working with Wetherbee Creative & Web was such a simple and stress-free experience. Wendy asked the right questions and really understood what we were wanting to convey. Our website speaks for itself. We are proud to refer potential and current customers to our site. The site reflects our company and truly helps to drive business. We couldn’t be more pleased.” – Monique Haas – Daydream Toy
